Background

Connecticut played a critical role in the 2016 designation of the Northeast Canyons & Seamounts Marine National Monument—the first and only marine national monument in the U.S. waters of the Atlantic and a beacon of climate resilience. Now we invite you to join us on October 10th to celebrate the third anniversary of the marine monument in our backyard!

This pristine habitat is hard to explore, but we’re giving you the chance to go beneath the surface and discover the wildlife and ecosystem of this incredible monument. Peter Auster, Senior Research Scientist at Mystic Aquarium, will give a virtual tour of the monument, including photos from dives taken just this last month. You will also hear from a panel of experts, including representatives from the Natural Resources Defense Council and local non-profits.  Rob Klee will share a few thoughts and perspectives from his time as the Commissioner of Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, and now as a lecturer at Yale FES and EVST on environmental law and policy.

Finally, the event will honor our Connecticut Congressional Delegation for their critical role in getting the Northeast Canyons & Seamounts designated as a Marine National Monument.

Join us for a reception and an exclusive view into a world few have experienced.
