Microplastics & Human Health: A Synthesis of Microplastic Particle Accumulation and Impact in the Human Body

Rising attention to plastic pollution around the globe has sparked emerging discussions around the topic of microplastics (MPs). Little research has been done to determine the accumulation and total affect these physical particles have on the human body. The small amount of research based on implications in the human body has focused on the chemical and hormonal leaching of plastic into the body. Part A of this essay explores the exposure to MPs in the human body through calculations of reported MPs in food. Pulling resources from many different journals to then write Part B of the essay that delves into the potential impact a particle can have on human health.
