Restoring the Parkway: Lessons for Management of the American River Parkway and Large Urban Parks

The American River Parkway is a heavily degraded river system located in Sacramento, California. Despite missed opportunities for programmatic value, ecological health, and infrastructural function, this major environmental resource possesses major potential to benefit the city of Sacramento. This paper serves as a lens through which to examine the opportunities for improved governance of the parkway, largely by focusing on the role of the manager within large urban parks.
