Olivia Schläpfer ‘23 is an Internal Communications specialist at Nestlé

Olivia Schläpfer has built an international career at the intersection of environmental policy, corporate sustainability, and strategic communications. As an Environmental Studies major concentrating in Environmental Policy, she complemented her studies with a Certificate in Advanced Language Study in French, reflecting her interest in global communication and cross-cultural collaboration.

Her senior essay explored why environmental conflicts often persist despite overwhelming scientific evidence. Olivia concluded that the missing ingredient is rarely more data—it is the ability to bridge scientific evidence with people’s lived experiences. That insight continues to shape her professional work today.

Olivia is currently an Internal Communications Specialist at Nestlé in Switzerland, where she connects more than 270,000 employees to the company’s strategy, purpose, and sustainability initiatives. Previously, she worked in Public Affairs, supporting projects related to packaging policy, circularity, and stakeholder engagement. Her work has also included leading the editorial direction of the historic Nestlé Gazette, launching the company’s Viva Engage platform to significantly increase employee engagement, developing the Global Employee Ambassador Program, and supporting issues and crisis communications.

Olivia’s academic and professional journey demonstrates how the Environmental Policy concentration prepares students to address environmental challenges through effective communication, stakeholder engagement, corporate responsibility, and evidence-based decision-making.
