Addison Luck '20 is an Associate Attorney at Sher Edling LLP

Addison Luck is an Associate Attorney at Sher Edling LLP, a nationally recognized environmental litigation firm, where he focuses on climate change litigation. His work includes pleadings, discovery, expert development, and case strategy in cases that seek to hold Big Oil accountable for deceptive conduct. 

As an Environmental Studies major concentrating in Environmental Humanities and a second major in History with a focus on Politics, Law, and Government, Addison explored the intersection of environmental ethics, legal systems, and the rights of nature movement. Inspired by a study abroad experience in New Zealand, he developed a passion for understanding how legal frameworks can recognize and protect the rights of the natural world.

With support from the Summer Environmental Fellowship, Addison traveled to Ecuador to conduct research for his award-winning senior essay, “Upholding Nature’s Rights in Ecuador: Identifying Problems and Providing Solutions,” advised by Professor Douglas Kysar of Yale Law School. His thesis received the prestigious Gaylord Donnelley Prize and examined how Ecuador’s groundbreaking constitutional recognition of the rights of nature could be strengthened through legal and policy reforms. During his undergraduate years, he also interned with the Earth Law Center, gaining firsthand experience in environmental advocacy.

Following graduation, Addison served as a Samuel Huntington Public Service Fellow on Kaua‘i, Hawai‘i, where he continued his work with the Earth Law Center before earning a postgraduate law diploma from the Dickson Poon School of Law, King’s College London.
