Vijjasena ‘Sena’ Sugiono '25 is an Investment Banking Analyst at Carbon Reduction Capital

Sena Sugiono combined Environmental Studies and Economics to explore one of the defining challenges of our time: accelerating the transition to clean energy in developing countries. His senior essay, “Indonesia’s Second Independence: An Analysis of Replacing Indonesia’s Domestic Market Obligation to Eliminate its Dependence on Fossil Fuels,” received the prestigious Gaylord Donnelley Prize for outstanding senior research. Through economic modeling and policy analysis, Sena compared Indonesia’s existing Domestic Market Obligation with a proposed Renewable Subsidy Program.

Growing up in Indonesia inspired Sena’s commitment to expanding clean energy access and advancing a just energy transition across the Global South. As an undergraduate, he gained experience in project finance, completed a solar installation project in Indonesia, worked with the Connecticut Green Bank, NY Green Bank, and Nevada Clean Energy Fund, and contributed to the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth’s SDG 7 Youth Constituency. During his time at Yale, he was actively involved with the Center for Business and the Environment at Yale (CBEY) and with the Yale Student Energy Association, both of which helped him build a network of students and professionals that helped him explore his career options and find the right fit.

Today, Sena works as an Investment Banking Analyst at Carbon Reduction Capital, where he supports investments in low-carbon infrastructure and clean energy projects. His long-term goal is to help accelerate the Global South’s energy transition and expand equitable access to clean energy in developing countries.
