Event Description:
As climate-related disasters, extreme heat, and shifting disease patterns increasingly strain our health systems, understanding how to build adaptive, equitable responses is more urgent than ever. This discussion will explore how research, governance, and community action can together bolster public health resilience in the face of climate change.
Speaker Bios:
• Anita Chandra is the Distinguished Chair in American Social Policy and Senior Principal Policy Researcher at RAND, and Professor of Policy Analysis at RAND School of Public Policy. Dr. Chandra leads research on community health, resilience, and civic well-being, with a focus on how societies can adapt to and recover from systemic challenges such as climate change and disasters. Her work has informed federal and local strategies for public health preparedness and equity. She received her Dr.P.H. from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
• Kai Chen is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology for Yale School of Public Health, Co-Faculty Director for Yale Center on Climate Change and Health, and Affiliated Faculty for Yale Institute for Global Health. Dr. Chen’s research examines the health impacts of climate change and air pollution, particularly on vulnerable populations. His work uses advanced data analytics to assess exposure risks and develop policies that mitigate climate-related health burdens globally. He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from Nanjing University.
