EVST Senior first Yale student Nominated as a Global Rhodes finalist

November 20, 2023

Congratulations to Selin Goren EVST ‘24 for being named a finalist for the Global Rhodes scholarship.  Selin is the first student from Yale to be nominated as a Global Rhodes finalist. Ten finalists from around the world were flown to the UK to be interviewed at Rhodes House on November 16th. Only two students were selected worldwide among candidates from countries outside an existing Rhodes jurisdiction or competition zone.

Each year 32 students from the United States are selected as Rhodes Scholars and join an international group of Scholars chosen from more than 64 different countries to form a class of about 100 scholars. You can read about the Four Yale College seniors who are among these 32 students here.

The Global Rhodes Scholarship  is open to applicants from countries that are not covered by a Rhodes constituency, and who must be nominated by their university.

The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest and perhaps best-known award for international study, provide all expenses for multiple years of study at the University of Oxford in England. An independent committee selects scholars based on their exceptional academic achievements and demonstrated ambitions for social impact.
