The Yale Climate Change and Health Initiative

The Yale Climate Change and Health Initiative (CCHI) draws on the expertise of Yale faculty across multiple disciplines and schools to address one of the greatest public health and policy challenges of the 21st century: climate change. CCHI offers courses on climate change and health at the Yale School of Public Health, hosts renowned speakers, and provides funding opportunities for student internships, conference attendance, and faculty research. Approximately 30 faculty representing diverse disciplines contribute to the research and goals of the initiative.

CCHI Student Associates Program

Student Associates serve as ambassadors for the CCHI program while also gaining broad exposure to issues of climate change and health and being part of a diverse community of like-minded faculty and students. Associates select climate change and health leaders and experts in a range of climate-related disciplines and invite them to campus to meet with CCHI associates in small, seminar-style discussions. Student Associates are also eligible to apply for CCHI-supported conference travel grants and summer internships.

Program Expectations

Student Associates are expected to participate in all program seminars, which take place approximately twice per semester. Student Associates also are often invited to participate in additional opportunities, including those organized by their colleagues in the program. The Student Associates Program is selective; accepting an invitation to join entails a commitment to participate in its activities as much as practicable.

Applying

All current Yale students, including undergraduate, graduate and professional school students are eligible to apply. CCHI is a multidisciplinary initiative that encourages students from a range of academic, professional, and personal backgrounds to contribute their perspectives and suggestions to the program. Applicants should be committed to actively engaging in issues related to climate change and health, have personal, professional and/or academic experience in relevant disciplines, be eager to work and learn in a cross-disciplinary environment, and be self-motivated future leaders who take the program responsibilities seriously.
