YSE Hiring Research Assistants in Agriculture, Land Management, and Climate in the Global South.

The Yale School of the Environment (YSE) is looking for highly motivated grad and undergrad students to support a portfolio of research projects and activities on sustainable agriculture, land management, and climate in the Global South.

Two postitions are available. Both start Fall of 2023 and continue until 2024. Students need to commit 10-20 hours per week.  A weekly schedule would be discussed in advance during planning sessions. 

Environmental - Social Science Research Assistant | Great opportunity for students interested in data analyses, fieldwork, and academic writing. The research is mainly focused on climate services, smallholder farmers, digital advisory tools, and conservation. Job listed on the Yale Student Employment website as 28986 RA Environmental and Social Science.

Duties include:

Assisting with document preparation (including grant applications, paper drafts, presentations, reports, etc.)
Assisting with academic gatherings and events.
Assisting with data processing and analysis.
Browsing archives for information and completing literature reviews.
Attending meetings with investigators and collaborators at diverse institutions such as Smithsonian Conservation Institute, Columbia Climate School, research institutes and farmers’ organizations in Latin America and Africa.
 
 
Data Science Research Assistant. | Excellent opportunty for students interested in digital tools, data processing, and programming applied in the context of agriculture, climate change and adaptation, land management practices, and conservation. Seeking someone who enjoys working at the intersection of data science and sustainability to understand human behavior and projects whose goals and approaches may not fit within traditional departmental boundaries.  Job listed on the Yale Student Employment website as 31261 RA Data Science.
 
Duties include:
 
Assisting with coding and software development and management.
Evaluating and advising software solutions and system performance.
Demonstrating patience and using effective explanations when advising team members from other fields.
Incorporating front-end users suggested improvements and functionalities.
Resolving software development and integration errors and documenting processes.
Attending meetings with investigators and collaborators at diverse institutions such as Columbia Climate School and the Data Science Institute and reinforcing collaborations with Data Scientists at Yale.
