The Environmental Studies Program offers two summer fellowship opportunities:
- Summer Environmental Fellowship (SEF)
- Summer Climate Technologies Fellowship
Both fellowships aim to enhance students’ understanding of environmental issues and provide valuable hands-on experience in the field.
Summer Environmental Fellowship (SEF)
For over 20 years, the Summer Environmental Fellowship has empowered students to explore pressing environmental challenges through summer internships and research opportunities. From local fieldwork to global policy analysis, SEF has funded hundreds of students engaging in work that spans disciplines, geographies, and sectors.
- Provides substantive environmental research or training opportunities
- Past experiences include:
- Internships with environmental organizations
- Positions at governmental agencies
- Research projects in field or laboratory settings at Yale or other institutions
- Supports Environmental Studies majors working on senior thesis research
- Maximum award amount: $4000
- Can be combined with other fellowships for additional funding
Summer Climate Technologies Fellowship
Since 2022, the Climate Technologies Fellowship has been awarded by the Environmental Studies Program to one Yale College student whose research focuses on improved climate technologies. The fellowship is made possible by the generosity of John M. Amatruda, MD ‘66.
- Focuses on technologies related to climate change
- Only one award per year is offered
- Maximum award amount: $5000
- Can be combined with other fellowships for additional funding
Eligibility
- Open to all Yale undergraduates (rising sophomores through rising seniors)
- Applicants should have an interest in environmental issues or climate technologies
Application Process
Students interested in applying for either or both fellowships should visit the Student Grants Database to find the “Summer Environmental Fellowship”. Students are only required to submit one application if they wish to apply to both fellowships; all eligible applicants are considered for the Summer Environmental Fellowship, while those who wish to be considered for the Climate Technologies Fellowship must state in their application that they wish to be considered for both fellowships.
